Overview

This retreat is our love letter to the doulas who give so much of themselves. You deserve rest, community, and care too.

DoulaSisters was born from sisterhood, shared purpose, and the need for rest. As two Black doulas deeply rooted in community care, we created this weekend to offer fellow doulas a space to pause and connect.

We know how deeply this work calls on us, and how rarely we get the chance to pour into ourselves the same way we pour into others.

In partnership with a Black-woman owned travel company, we’ve built this space as both a getaway and gathering: a time to engage with fellow doulas, support Black-owned businesses, and simply be.

Our visions in for this retreat to grow each year-starting local, then expanding beyond borders-into a beloved annual tradition that doulas look forward to.

Whether you’re justing starting out or years into the work, we hope you’ll leave this experience feeling grounded, affirmed, and more connected to your purpose.

Doula Sisters

Hey, I’m Shanti—doula, educator, mentor
I am a certified full-spectrum doula, childbirth educator, lactation consultant, placenta specialist, and I hold a degree in Maternal & Child Health Education from Howard University. Since 2022, I’ve been running Doula Shanti Birth Services, and for the past year, training the next generation of doulas —guiding them not just in skill-building, but in how to show up with purpose, presence, and peace. I also serve as the Director of Operations for En Root Travel. In my free time I enjoy traveling and having new experiences, creating and consuming art and engaging in fun exercises.

Hi, I’m Ishanai Jones. I am a Philly based, full spectrum Doula, peer lactation consultant and placenta specialist doing business as Doula Necessities. It is truly my pleasure to service families in search for wisdom, advocacy and specialized support. I enjoy teaching others and opportunities to build community and collaborate. As a doula, I’ve had the opportunity to be a mentor to my peers in the delivery rooms and beyond. I also work part-time at a birth center being mentored by midwives in the Philly area. When I’m not wearing my doula hat I’m usually wearing my mom jeans on a nature walk with my little one and taking care of my family.
